Display Box
I received a call from my good friend Jeff Payne (paynebitsandspurs.com) and he needed a display box for a pair of custom spurs that he was building as a fund raiser for the Equine Program at our alma mater, Tarleton State University. Of course you can't say no to a deal like that, (not that I would have anyway) and I decided that the scheme that I used on the Humidor project would lend itself to this. I feel like I am hung up on this pattern but the Pecan that I have really works well with this design and the box joint joinery. (I am currently finishing the final project with this wood and I will post it next week, but I did the same to a large extreme.) For this Display Box, I used the Pecan with a book matched top panel, the box joint construction, a Spanish Cedar bottom, and a Mesquite lining. It's finished with shellac and varnish. The display portion is removable so that it can be used for other purposes.
